Ontario|Health LawHealth Law 698 Organ donation
- How to donate your organs
In Ontario, drivers have the option of consenting to organ donation when they receive their license, by filling out and signing an organ donation card. There are also organ donation cards distributed by some private health insurance companies. However, signing an organ donation card will not guarantee that your organs will be donated upon your death.
- Family have the final say about organ donation
Generally, family members have the final say whether organs are donated, and a doctor will rarely over-ride a decision, even if the deceased person indicated they wanted their organs donated. Therefore, it is important to discuss the issue with your family so that they can understand your intentions. For additional information about organ donation, you can contact the Ministry of Health listed in the Blue pages of the telephone book.
