    305 Using Trademark symbols: ®

The owner of a trademark is not required by law to use the trademark symbol. However, it is a good idea to use a symbol because it may help to prevent people from using your trademark illegally for their product or service.

  • Trademark symbols
There are two different trademark symbols that you can use. The most common is the letter 'r' with a circle around it, which indicates that the trademark is registered. This symbol should only be used if the trademark is in fact registered. The letters "TM", indicating trademark can also be used. "TM" can be used regardless of whether the mark is registered or not. If you want to communicate your trademark in French, you can use the letters "MD" if the mark is registered, or the letters "MC" whether it is registered or not.
