Ontario|Find A LawyerFind A Lawyer 863 The Lawyers Fund for Client Compensation Lawyers from time to time come into possession of large sums of money that they hold in trust for clients. As part of their fiduciary duty lawyers must provide clients with a complete accounting of the handling of these monies. There have been cases where lawyers have stolen clients' monies or put their monies in questionable investments. In order to help clients in these instances the Law Society established The Lawyers Fund for Client Compensation in the 1950s. Clients must make an application to the Fund which can make discretionary grants up to $100,000. This Fund is separate and distinct from the liability insurance that all practising lawyers in Ontario are required to carry. You can contact the Law Society for more information about The Lawyers Fund for Client Compensation.
