Ontario|Workers CompensationEmployees 637 Responsibilities while receiving benefits Under the law, if you are receiving Workplace Safety and Insurance benefits, you have obligations to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and to your employer.
You are required to comply with all Workplace Safety and Insurance Board requests for re-assessments of your medical condition, which may involve examinations by a doctor, providing information about your state of health, and participating in medical rehabilitation programmes to improve your condition. You are also required to report any changes that could affect your eligibility for benefits, such as if you return to work, get other employment, or your condition improves. If you do not properly report information to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, or you do not follow their requests or instructions, your benefits may be suspended or you may have to return benefits you have already collected. Employees must also co-operate with their employer and the Board in returning to work as quickly and as safely as possible.
The employer will normally be responsible for maintaining your employment benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, or private pension, for at least one year while you are away and receiving Workplace Safety and Insurance benefits. However, if you normally contribute to employment benefit plans, you must keep making regular contributions while you are off work, or your employer can suspend your employment benefits until you return.
