681 Permanent resident applicants with foreign criminal records

People who want to apply for permanent resident status in Canada and who have a criminal record from another country will need a special document called an Approval of Rehabilitation to enter Canada.

To apply for an Approval of Rehabilitation, you will have to provide copies of all the police documents, court transcripts, and other documents that relate to the conviction. Immigration Canada will need full details about the criminal charges to determine whether you are eligible to enter Canada. If you want to visit Canada while your permanent resident application is being processed, you will need to obtain a document called a Minister's Permit because of your criminal record.

More information about how to apply for a Minister's Permit or Approval of Rehabilitation is available on Legal Line . A Canadian immigration lawyer can help you prepare and handle all aspects of your immigration application.
