Algonquin Careers Academy

The Law Clerk program at Algonquin Careers Academy is a 34-week Ontario College Diploma program. Graduates are prepared for career opportunities with law firms, paralegal firms, legal aid agencies, government organizations, insurance companies, and other businesses.

Students learn various skills, including:

  • interviewing clients
  • preparing trial briefs
  • drafting legal correspondence
  • general office and clerical duties
  • maintaining corporate documents and filings
  • researching records and court files

Areas of law studied include:

  • family law,
  • civil litigation,
  • corporate and commercial law, and
  • real estate law

Admission requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or the equivalent, OR if 18 years of age or over, apply as a mature student and write an entrance exam
  • Ontario grade 12 English or equivalent
  • Language proficiency
  • Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Immigration approval
  • Assessment Interview to determine suitability for the Law Clerk course

Course delivery

  • participate in an off-site field placement or
  • in-class workplace simulation

Online Distance Education Diploma Program

The Online Distance Education Diploma Program includes a 4-week practical placement and takes 34 weeks total time to complete based on 20 hours per week.

Fees

Tuition cost for domestic students for the total program is approximately $9,100 and the cost of books and supplies is about $1,795 a year.
