Region: Ontario Answer # 2815To apply for a paralegal licence with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), all applicants must have graduated from a Law Society accredited Paralegal Education Program, which must be from a college approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
What is the Georgian College Paralegal Graduate Program?
Graduates of the LSO accredited full-time 1-year Paralegal Graduate Certificate Program at Georgian College acquire an understanding of the general principles of law while gaining theoretical knowledge and practical experience in ethics and a small business practice. Courses cover a wide variety of subjects, including:
- Legal Accounting
- Administrative Law
- Legal Computer Applications
- Legal Research and Writing
- Torts and Contracts
Admission requirements
- Post-secondary diploma or degree
- Three years of post-secondary education is recommended
- Applicants must also submit a 500 word letter of intent explaining the reason for their interest in the program
Course delivery
- 21 program courses
- 1 unpaid field training placement which runs for the equivalent of four weeks following completion of third semester final exams
Once students have completed all the requirements of this program and have received a certificate, they are eligible to apply for admission to the LSO’s paralegal licensing process.
