For what conditions can medical marijuana legally be prescribed?
Region: Ontario Answer # 2481Medical cannabis, or medical marijuana as it is commonly known, include cannabis and cannabis products, such as cannabinoid oil (CBD). Medical marijuana can legally be prescribed by doctors for health reasons, to treat diseases or improve symptoms.
Typically, the ratio of CBD to TCH is 1:1 or 2:1. Therefore, medical marijuana is much less likely to produce the psychoactive effects of recreational cannabis, such as euphoria and intoxication.
What is medical marijuana prescribed for?
Medical marijuana has several potential beneficial effects, and is often prescribed to:
- reduce nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy
- increase appetite
- treat chronic pain
- treat depression and anxiety
- treat muscle spasms
- reduce inflammation
- improve sleep
and treat various conditions and illnesses such as:
- Anorexia
- Arthritis
- Migraine
- Glaucoma
- Fibromyalgia
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Epilepsy
- Parkinson’s Disease
- ADHD
- Crohn’s Disease
- PYSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
How is medical cannabis consumed?
Medical cannabis can be administered through many methods, including:
- ingesting oil directly on the tongue, or in edibles or beverages
- oral capsules, sprays or lozenges
- dermal patches (patches applied to a clean, dry and hairless skin surface)
- tinctures (ointments or lotions applied topically to the skin)
- vaping or smoking dried cannabis buds
- ingesting raw cannabis leaves or buds (mixed in a juice or smoothie)
