Area of Law: Cannabis Law
Answer # 2462
What types of cannabis and how much can individuals grow?
Region: Ontario Answer # 2462Under Canada’s Cannabis Act, adults who are 18 years or older (depending on the province or territory) can legally grow up-to 4 plants per residence (not per person) for personal use. The plants must be grown from seeds or seedlings purchased from licensed sellers. Also, it is important to note that it is legal to share up-to 30 grams of home grown cannabis with other adults of legal age.
Cannabis seeds
Cannabis can be grown using seeds or seedlings from either the cannabis sativa or cannabis indica plants, although a plant may contain a hybrid of the two.
Sativa seeds take longer to flower, while indica seeds, which have a lower THC count, produce a much greater yield and are easier to grow.
While cannabis plants can be either male or female, only female plants bud and produce seeds that can be used to grow additional plants. These are called feminized seeds. You can tell if a plant is female if, after it has flowered, it has white hairs.
Seedlings
Cannabis can also be grown using seedlings, also known as cannabis clones, or pre-germinated plants cut from a mother plant.
