Who uses the services of a process server?

Process servers can be hired by anyone needing to have documents served on someone else. This can include:

  • individuals;
  • lawyers or law firms representing individuals or other parties;
  • corporations, such as banks and insurance companies;
  • private businesses; and
  • governments (municipal, provincial, federal).

When might a process server be used?

A process server might be hired in the following situations:

  • Individuals involved in Smalls Claims Court actions
  • Individuals or businesses involved in a civil lawsuit
  • Real estate cases:
    • Foreclosure documents
    • Eviction notices
    • Landlord/tenant documents
  • Family Law cases:
    • Divorce papers
    • Custody documents
    • Child support
    • Visitation papers
  • Government and general civil cases:
    • Local courts
    • Federal courts
    • Government agencies
