Amnesty International has just announced the winners of the 26th annual Amnesty International Media Awards in Canada. These awards recognize outstanding human rights reporting by journalists in Canada and Canadian journalists abroad.
The Long-Form Video Award was awarded to Documentary Film-maker Martin Himel, for TVO’s ‘The Arrest’. The Arrest is a film about Andres, a 68 year old Canadian law-abiding grandfather who was beaten and arrested by a police officer while his neighbour’s house was on fire when he refused to go back into his Toronto house because the gas main could blow up.
Legal Line Founder and Chief Information Officer Antree Demakos is featured in the film because of her award-winning legal work, and her expertise in the area of criminal records.
Antree met with Martin and Olivia to share pertinent information about the ramification of arrests, charges, and the obstacles created from a criminal record, even for a wrongful arrest.
