How is horse racing regulated?

In Canada, horse racing is predominately regulated by individual provincial and territorial bodies or gaming corporations. Regulations include licensing, governing and supervising all individuals and businesses involved in the horse racing industry, such as

  • Racetrack owners
  • Jockeys
  • Association employees
  • Stable employees

These regulators may also be responsible for:

  • Investigations of racing violations,
  • fraud, and
  • animal welfare cases
