Online gambling is only legal in Canada if it is operated and licensed by a provincial government. The Criminal Code makes it illegal for Canadian companies to offer online gambling to Canadians. However, the Code does not apply to overseas companies, and Canadians may use internationally licensed online gambling websites.

Each province has its own rules and regulations regarding online gambling:

Alberta: Officially launched on July 13, 2026 and established under the iGaming Alberta Act, the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) conducts and manages the private online iGaming market on behalf of the province. All operators must be registered with Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) and a have signed AiGC Operator Agreement to become an approved Alberta operator.

British Columbia: Online gambling is legal through PlayNow, operated by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

Manitoba: Online gambling is legal through PlayNow, operated by the Liquor and Gaming Authority of Manitoba.

New Brunswick: Online gambling is not offered by the provincial government, but residents can visit regulated international online gambling websites.

Newfoundland and Labrador: Online gambling is not offered by the provincial government, but residents can visit regulated international online gambling websites.

Nova Scotia: Online gambling is not offered by the provincial government, but residents can visit regulated international online gambling websites.

In Ontario iGaming Ontario (iGO), a subsidiary of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) licenses and regulates third-party online gambling sites, such as casino and sports betting websites run by operators from the United States and Europe. Online operators must register with the AGCO and secure a Letter of Agreement with iGO.

Prince Edward Island: Online gambling is not offered by the provincial government, but residents can visit regulated international online gambling websites.

Quebec: Online gambling is legal through the government-operated website Espacejeux.

Saskatchewan: Online gambling is not offered by the provincial government, but residents can visit regulated international online gambling websites
