What is off-track betting and is it legal?

Region: Ontario Answer # 5666

Off-track betting, or OTB, refers to legal betting on greyhound racing or horse racing in any licensed location other than the racetrack. Off-track betting establishments, called ‘Teletheatres’ or ‘betting theatres’ were legalized in Canada in 1989.

To be considered a legal teletheatre / betting theatre, the establishment must be licensed by the provincial government.
