CRA tax collection agencies
Region: Ontario Answer # 3756The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) employes its own staff to manage tax-related issues, but also partners with private collection agencies for tax recovery.
CRA employees
- Official employees of the CRA
- Assist with tax returns, audits, collections, inquiries, etc.
- CRA employees contact taxpayers though official communication methods like mail or phone
- They have a CRA identification number and will use it to identify themselves
CRA collections
- Not employees of the CRA but authorized to work for them in a limited capacity
- The CRA may collect unpaid taxes through private collection agencies
- These collection agencies will clearly identify themselves
- Payments are always made to the Receiver General for Canada and NOT the collection Agency
