Answer # 6102
Does a dual Canadian-British citizen need an ETA to enter the UK?
Region: Ontario Answer # 6102Dual Canadian-British citizens are exempt from the UK ETA requirement. However, they must travel to the UK using their British passport or provide proof of British Citizenship through having a valid Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode.
If you attempt travel on a Canadian passport with an ETA after 25 February 2026, carriers may refuse boarding, and the UK may deny entry, as the ETA obligation does not apply to British citizens. Always use your British passport when entering the UK as a British citizen.
If you cannot obtain or renew your British passport in time, you may use a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode in place of a British passport.
