Who can access your personal and biometric data collected at a European border?
Region: Ontario Answer # 6207Your personal data collected by the Entry/Exit System (EES) may be shared with:
- Border, visa and immigration authorities in the European countries using the EES. This is done to verify your identity and understand whether you should be allowed to enter or stay in the county.
- Law enforcement authorities of the countries using the EES and Europol for law enforcement purposes. The EES works alongside systems like Europol (and the soon to be implemented ERIAS which will ask about your criminal record history) to flag travellers involved in criminal activities, terrorism, or those with active entry bans.
- Under strict conditions, your data may be transferred to another country (inside or outside the EU) or international organization – a UN organization, the International Organization for Migration, or the International Committee of the Red Cross) for return and/or law enforcement purposes.
