Region: Ontario Answer # 2807To apply for a paralegal licence with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), all applicants must have graduated from a Law Society accredited Paralegal Education Program, which must be from a college approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
What is the Centennial College Paralegal Graduate Certificate Program?
Graduates of the LSO accredited Paralegal Graduate Certificate Program at The Business School at Centennial College will have acquired the skills that are required to work as a Paralegal in legal services. Graduates gain extensive knowledge of Canadian law. Courses cover a wide variety of subjects, including:
- Legal Research/Writing
- Administrative Law
- Provincial offences and summary conviction matters
- Employment Law
- Legal Accounting
- Immigration Law
Admission requirements
- Degree or a two-year college diploma in any discipline
- Applicants who have partial (minimum 50%) university degree completion and who have a minimum of two years work experience relevant to the program (transcript and resume review required) will be also be considered
- English language proficiency
Course delivery
The Certificate Program is one year in length covered over three consecutive semesters and includes:
- 196 hours of hands on training
- Mock trials
- Two-day-per-week work placement in 3rd semester
Graduates of the program will be entitled to apply to the LSO to write their Paralegal licensing examination.
