Region: Ontario Answer # 2814To apply for a paralegal licence with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), all applicants must have graduated from a Law Society accredited Paralegal Education Program, which must be from a college approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
What is the George Brown College Paralegal Certificate Program?
Graduates of the LSO accredited Paralegal Certificate Program at George Brown College will have acquired the skills that are required to work as a Paralegal in legal services. Courses cover a wide variety of subjects, including:
- Legal Research/Writing
- Administrative Law
- Provincial offences and summary conviction matters
- Employment Law
- Legal Accounting
- Tribunal Practice and Procedure
Admission requirements
- Advanced computer skills OR completion of COMP 9727 Microsoft Office
- Fundamentals and COMP 9191 Microsoft Word course or COMP 9719 Microsoft Word (Distance Learning) course
- Completion of the General English Assessment and score high enough to be assigned to College English.
Course delivery
The George Brown College Paralegal Certificate Program:
- can be completed in anywhere from 24 months (in its compressed format) to a maximum of 36 months
- includes field placement
Once students have completed all the requirements of this program with a cumulative grade average of C (63%) or better, they can request to receive a certificate, and are eligible to apply for admission to the LSO’s paralegal licensing process.
